Lanta Paddlesports and the Little Swedish School (Lilla Svenska Skolan) had their first paddleboard lessons together on Klong Dao Beach. There were over 30 students learning how to SUP for their first time and everyone had a LOT of fun. After learning how to use basic paddle strokes, the kids started to get adventuresome and tried handstands on the boards and paddling with four people on one board. There were lots of smiles and laughter during the lessons and now we have a new group SUP paddleboarders to share the water with on Koh Lanta. Pictures to follow........ 1 Comment We have had over a month now introducing the sport of SUP to our guests, mostly all from Sweden. As it turns out, they really like the sport very much but just need to get into the water and give it a try. We have taught more people how to surf on the waves in the first month, than most places could teach in a year. The conditions have been nearly perfect for beginners, with wave conditions generally the right size for learning to surf. There have been a few days with wave heights too big for the newbies, but that was great for the more advanced surfers who have never surfed a 2 meter wave in Thailand in December. Now the conditions have settled down a bit and the flat water paddles are becoming more common than waves, but the clear water conditions are great for taking the kids on a fish hunting expedition. It seems the Swedish and Norwegian people already have a fondness for the sport of SUP as you can see from the SUP surfing article webpage here: Best to copy the link and paste to your browser http://www.star-board-sup.com/2011/news/read.php?post_name=norways-gaute-kristiansen-brings-pure-rush-challenge-3 Check it out and come join us in Koh Lanta for a paddle!!!! Earlier this week, Lanta Paddlesports had our first fully booked island adventure tour group of the season. It was a huge success and the big smiles and happy shouts from all of the participants reflected what a great time everyone had. We cruised along the sheer limestone cliffs and amazingly still waters of our secret island. Thai eagles soared overhead, flying fish skipped along the water in front of us, and we even spotted a 6 foot long monitor lizard on the shore. It is impossible to describe the serenity and beauty of the island but we have some photos for you to look at to give you an idea of the visual splendor of the island. Come along with us on our next Adventure Tour and have the experience of a lifetime. Enjoy! The season is officially underway and we have many fun activities to offer our guests. There are still some fun waves to surf, here in October and they should hang around for another month. Check out the photos attached to see some of the fun to be had while visiting us here on Koh Lanta. You can take our Island Adventure tour, paddle a SUP, rent a surfboard or boogie board, or rent our Jeep to make your own adventure. The high season on Koh Lanta is fast approaching and we are seeing the first few visitors start to arrive. We just did our first paddleboard island adventure and took some photos and video to show everyone how incredibly beautiful this part of Thailand really is. Enjoy the youtube video attached and let us know what you think. Next post will have images of the surf going on right now. Come down for a visit as the surf is good, the weather great, and low prices, not too many people in the water. Prime conditions. The SUP surf season in Thailand is definitely here, especially on Koh Lanta. We have had some great SUP surfing conditions here on Koh Lanta this past month. Some days have brought rain and wind, but once it clears out, there are usually a few days of really fun surf. It may be quite a surprise to most of you to hear of good surf in Thailand, but it is here and uncrowded. The great thing about SUP in Koh lanta is that therte are many smaller islands surrounding the island of Koh Lanta which are easily reached by paddleboard. Great day trips are available to these cool islands to explore the caves and lagoons hidden on their coastline. Come join the fun and adventure of SUP in Koh Lanta Thailand. The last few days have been great for surfing and SUP here on Koh Lanta. The wind has been relatively calm and there have been consistent waist to shoulder high sets of clean and glassy waves. The only issue is that there has not been anyone else in the water. It is not that I like crowded conditions mind you, but, having someone else in the water to appreciate the amazing conditions and share the experience is a good thing. Most people do not associate Thailand with surfing, and those that do usually visit Phuket. I would reccommend to the adventurous to visit Koh Lanta during the summer monsoon months for some fun, uncrowded / nonexistent crowd surf or SUP. There are several beaches on the west coast of Koh Lanta which are prime for surfing and a couple of secret spots north of Koh Lanta which promise even greater rewards. Come on over to visit us here in Koh Lanta. There is plenty of fun for both the family travelers and the single travelers on the island. We cannot let too many more of these great waves go unsurfed. I will have someone to help document these claims I am making soon so keep posted for photos and video of SUP and surfing on Koh Lanta. We decided to take a road trip from Koh Lanta and go visit our family in Buriram and take along some stand up paddleboards for fun. Buriram is in central Thailand and is primarily a rice growing region. This is the first time anyone from Buriram has ever seen stand up paddleboarding as they are only used to seeing water buffalo in the lakes and ponds. We bought a Handirack inflatable roof rack for the paddleboard and took off. The Handirack worked great and we made it the whole trip, over 1000 kilometers, without any trouble. I found a local reservoir near the village where we stayed and was able to paddle around and also teach some of my Thai cousins how to SUP. The kids loved it and the Thai rice farmers from the fields surrounding the reservoir all came to take a look. We used the Starboard Whopper to teach the cousins to SUP and they all did great, the Whopper is a winner for instruction. All in all, it was a great success introducing SUP to the Issan region of Thailand and maybe someday one of these kids who tried it out will become a paddle champion. See some of the action in the photos below. A new beginning of SUP in Koh Lanta Thailand 08/07/2010
